Dental Crowns: Fixing Teeth That Are Damaged or Worn
If a tooth is weak, broken, or doesn’t look right anymore, a dental crown might help. Crowns are strong and can make teeth look and work better again.
What Is a Crown?
A crown is a cap that goes on top of your tooth, covering it from the gum up. You can think of it like a little helmet for your tooth. It helps protect the tooth and makes it stronger, while still looking like a real tooth.
Crowns can be made from different materials, like:
- Porcelain
- Ceramic
- Porcelain with metal
- Zirconia
- Gold
When Do You Need a Crown?
A crown might be used if:
- Your tooth is weak or cracked
- A tooth is broken or worn down
- The shape or color of a tooth is really off
- You have a big filling and not much tooth left
- You’re getting a bridge to replace a missing tooth
- You had a root canal
- You got a dental implant and need something on top
How It Works
First Visit
We’ll look at your tooth, maybe take an X-ray, and talk about what kind of crown is best.
Getting the Tooth Ready
We remove any bad or damaged parts of the tooth and shape it to fit the crown. Then we take impressions (digital or with a mold). A temporary crown is placed while the real one is made.
Final Visit
We take off the temporary one, check the new one for fit and feel, then cement it in place. If something feels off, we adjust it.
